FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis lost 8-1 to a strong undefeated Fredonia State team on Wednesday.
Tori Noller and
Kaylee Jentsch played well in first doubles, losing 8-5.
In singles play, two Highlander freshmen turned in solid performances, with
Erin Haley battling out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win in fifth singles while
Tessa Brown lost in a tight three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 5-10.
"Fredonia is a tough team. This was a very good match for us; we learned a lot today and we have a good idea of the things we need to work on to begin competing at this level of play," said Head Coach
Tonya McGraner. "I'm especially proud of our two freshmen,
Erin Haley and
Tessa Brown, for fighting it out in simultaneous third-set tie breakers. They did very well today."
Houghton is back in action on Saturday, September 15 when they host Stevens at noon.
