ERIE, Pa. -- Houghton men's soccer made it interesting at the end, but the equalizing goal at the final horn was disallowed, sending the Highlanders to a 2-1 season opening loss to Penn State Behrend on Friday. The game was part of the PSU Behrend Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.
Highlander freshman
Brice Bogna put a shot over the keeper and into the back of the net in the 39th minute to give the visitors a 1-0, but Behrend scored in the 46th and 71st minute to pull out the win.
Houghton had a final chance in the closing minutes, fighting for three corners. A final ball into the box was headed over the keeper as the horn sounded, but the officials conferred and determined the shot didn't cross the line in time.

FROM THE COACH
It was a good start to the game today, with a great goal by Bogna to take a 1-0 lead into the half. However, we struggled to respond in the 2nd half to their pressure and let them back in the game right away. We need to respond better tomorrow, but I am confident we will do so. - Head Coach
