HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis grabbed a key Empire 8 Conference win, 8-1, over St. John Fisher at the Kerr-Pegula Field House on Wednesday.
The Highlanders swept the six singles matches and got wins in second and third doubles. Each singles match was won in straight sets.
"We got very strong performances from Louis Garcia and
Jake Fisler at second doubles and then first and fourth singles, respectively," said Head Coach
Matthew Webb. "The depth of our team showed again as
Bjorn Webb and
Dylan Scherer had a dominant performance at third doubles and then won both their respective singles matches at fifth and sixth singles. I was proud of
Zach Shilvock and
Jordan Crouch, who both came back from a loss at first doubles with strong performances at second and third singles. It was a very good day for Houghton men's tennis today."
Houghton is now 5-4 overall and 2-1Â in E8 play. The Highlanders return to action for back to back conference matches this weekend. They take on Hartwick College in Elmira on Friday and then travel to Utica to take on the Pioneers on Saturday.
