HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton field hockey saw a one-goal lead and their chances at a E8 postseason berth slip away in the second half as Hartwick scored twice in the final 35 minutes to secure a 2-1 lead over the Highlanders.
The hosts got on the board first when Sam Hirsch redirected a shot from
Hannah Daniels into the back of the net in the third minute of the contest. The score would remain 1-0 under just under two minutes ticked away in the second half. Hartwick put the game-winner in the net in the 57th minute.
The Hawks had several other chances turned away thanks to the play of keeper
Sarah Olandt and the tenacious defensive playing in front of her.
