HOUGHTON, NY – The reigning Empire 8 field hockey champion, St. John Fisher Cardinals, turned in an impressive performance on Wednesday night, defeating the Houghton Highlanders on their home field, 5-0.
The Cardinals wasted little time in getting on the board as Emily Markarian scored her seventh goal of the season in the seventh minute on a flicked pass from Bre Socker.
Fisher would score three more goals in the first half and another in the second.
Houghton had a handful of opportunities, but some excellent defending and goal-tending kept the Highlanders off the board.
