Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Can't Get Past Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Paul Chapman scored the game's first goal and totaled four tallies on the day but it wasn't enough to lead Houghton men's lacrosse to a win, as the Highlanders lost 17-6 to Thiel University on Saturday.

For the second-straight contest, Chapman got the Highlanders on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 11:53 mark of the first quarter, but the hosts responded 30 seconds later and added six more goals in the quarter to go up 7-1.

Thiel added three more goals over the first seven minutes of the second quarter before freshman Thomas Woodward scored Houghton's second goal with a man advantage. Another Thiel goal was followed by back-to-back tallies from Cole Chapman and Paul Chapman to make the score 11-4 going into halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the third quarter, before Thiel scored three-straight to push the margin to 15-5. Paul Chapman put his fourth of the afternoon into the back of the net, but the hosts scored two more to finish the day's scoring. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Thiel outshot the Highlanders, 59-18, on the day. Jorge Medina stopped 22 shots for Houghton.

Nathan Moore led the Highlanders with six ground balls.

Houghton (0-3) returns to action when they host Wells College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
