HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's lacrosse suffered a 15-6 defeat at the hands of Baldwin Wallace College on Saturday at Burke Field.
The Highlanders jumped out in front 2-0 and 3-1 before the Yellowjackets reeled off 11-straight goals to a take 12-3 lead into halftime. Jenny Zacchigna scored twice in the opening 30 minutes, with
Meghan Oswald scoring the other Highlander goal.
After the intermission, Houghton found some like offensively and scored two times over the first seven minutes, both tallies coming off the stick of Zacchigna. The Yellowjackets quelled the Houghton rally with three more goals before
Marissa Hews ended the scoring with just over two minutes left.
Baldwin Wallace finished the game with a 20-19 shots advantage, although the Highlanders did have an 11-10 edge in the second half. Ground balls were even at 24 for each team.
Alison Clark made four stops in net.
Zacchigna finished with four goals on seven shots. Oswald contributed a goal, six ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Chandler Jones tallied four assists.
Houghton (1-2) returns to action when they host SUNY Canton on Friday, March 17.at 7 p.m.
