HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Senior
Jennifer Zacchigna scored five goals, but Houghton women's lacrosse fell short to SUNY Canton at Burke Field on Friday night, 16-9.
Houghton got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Zacchigna, assisted by
Chandler Jones just 2 minutes into the game.
SUNY Canton stormed right back with 3 unanswered goals.  Another goal by Zacchigna cut the deficit to 1 making the score 3-2 going into halftime. Â
Three unanswered by the Canton put the score at 6-2 to open the gates in the second half. Â Houghton then made a surge of 3 goals in a row by Zacchigna,
Marissa Hews, and
Meghan Oswald to cut the score to 6-5.
Canton then went on a tear and out scored the Highlanders 10-4 the rest of the way.
Canton out shot the Highlanders 35-24 on the evening. Â
Alison Clark had 11 saves in the goal for Houghton. Â Jones recorded 4 assists. Â
The Highlanders head to Utica for an Empire 8 matchup Saturday afternoon.
