Turnovers the Difference as Bombers Defeat Highlanders

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca Bombers remained undefeated at home this season, defeating the visiting Houghton Highlanders, 74-48.
 
The Bombers—winners of 11 straight games and currently ranked 2nd in the NCAA East Region—capitalized on 27 Highlander turnovers while committing only 11, and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Key Moments
>> A Hannah Manwaring layup gave the Highlanders a five-point lead midway through the first quarter, but Ithaca responded with an 11-2 run to end the first 10 minutes up by four.
 
>> In the second quarter the teams traded baskets throughout until the Bombers sank a layup with two minutes to play to extend their lead to eight.  A Madison Detwiler basket brought the lead back to six, but Ithaca sank a free throw to head into the break leading, 31-24.
 
>> Houghton cut the Bombers lead to three early in the third quarter on a Hannah Manwaring three, but Ithaca responded with a 13-2 run.
 
The Highlanders clawed back to within eight, but the Bombers sank another three to end the quarter, leading 51-40.

>> Ithaca utilized a deep bench, outscoring the Highlander reserves, 41-3.  While only three Bombers scored in double-digits, 13 different players found their way into the scorer's column.  Not a single Ithaca player logged more than 24 minutes, and only three played more than 20 minutes.

>> The Bombers held the Highlanders to only 7-of-27 shooting (26 percent) from the field in the second half, while Ithaca knocked down 16-of-33 (48 percent) of their shots during the same time period.

>> Elle Reed posted 14 points and four steals for the Highlanders while Detwiler collected 12 points and eight rebounds.  Manwaring added 11 points and five rebounds.

Next Time Out
The Highlanders return to action on Saturday for their final game of the season when they take on cross-county rival Alfred University at 2:00 p.m. at the Nielsen Center.  The Highlanders took the season's first matchup, 69-51, thanks to a second half in which they outscored the Saxons, 45-21.
