Highlanders Drop Senior-Night Heartbreaker to Saxons in OT

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Alfred University pulled away in overtime to defeat the Houghton Highlanders on their home court in tonight's regular-season finale, 83-78.

With the Highlanders leading by two at the end of regulation, Jamie Wilcox hit a runner from just inside the top of the key as time expired to tie the game, 70-70, and send it to overtime.

The Saxons overcame an 18-point second quarter lead by the Highlanders, cutting the deficit to nine at the half and gaining their first lead of the game midway through the third quarter.

Houghton regained the lead, and led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter, but the Saxons scrapped back into contention.

With four second remaining on the clock, Madison Detwiler sank a pair of free throws that put Houghton up by two before Wilcox sent the game into extra time.
