HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Geneseo Knights stole the season opener in a 65-38 victory over the Highlanders.

Geneseo's defensive pressure and strength in the paint proved the deciding factor of the game. The ability to put the ball in the basket did not seem to be the problem for either team, but the Highlanders struggled to take of the ball committing 30 turnovers.

Geneseo capitalized on the flaws, scoring 31 points off of turnovers.

Houghton's Emily Swanson was 6-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. She led the Highlanders with 14 points while Geneseo's McKenna Brooks totaled 18 points, six rebounds, and seven steals.
