ALFRED, NY— In what looked like a near replay of yesterday, the Houghton Highlanders defeated the Lycoming Warriors in straight sets before falling in five sets to the Lynchburg Hornets.
The Highlanders took advantage of some excellent service and net play in the first match of the day, doling out 12 aces and racking up 10 blocks at the net.
In the second match, after losing the first game, the Highlanders won the next two thanks to some excellent hitting by
Naomi Prentice,
Amber Edwards and
Ally Bittinger.
Houghton stood only two points away from taking the match (23-20) in the fourth set before a pair of Hornet kills, two Highlander errors and a service ace ended the set in Lynchburg's favor, tying the match at two sets apiece.
With the final set 9-10 in favor of the Hornets, Lynchburg reeled off a 5-1 run to take the set and the match.
