Field Hockey Wins Thriller in Overtime

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Houghton College field hockey team improved to 5-3 on the season after taking an exciting 3-2 overtime victory against Brockport on Tuesday night.

Brockport's season record dropped to 1-8 with the loss.

Houghton controlled play for most of the contest, but after Nicole Jennings opened the scoring 22:28 into the contest, the Highlanders couldn't get any shots past the Brockport keeper for the next 35 minutes. The Golden Eagles tied the score late in the first half and added another to go up 2-1 in the 54th minute. Tanya Hatton was able to pull Houghton even with her team-leading ninth goal at 58:21.

After the teams went to extra time, it didn't take long for the Highlanders to get into scoring position. A Highlander attacker was taken down in the circle and Houghton was awarded a penalty stroke in the 73rd minute. Ashley Hughes stepped to the spot and flicked her shot into the net to give the visitors the win.

In goal for the Highlanders Elizabeth Piszker allowed two goals and made seven saves en route to her fitth win of the season. For the Golden Eagles, Sarah Beam would allow three goals while tallying 14 saves. 
 
The Highlanders outshot the Golden Eagles by a margin of 23-11.
 
The Highlanders look to continue their success on Saturday with an Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick College at 1 p.m. on Burke Field.
