HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton field hockey fell to Hartwick, 3-2, in double overtime Saturday at Burke Field. With the loss, Houghton falls to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the E8. Hartwick improves to 7-3; 3-2.

The Highlanders had rallied to even the score with just over one minute left in regulation, but the Hawks got the game-winner with time running down in the second overtime.

The teams played evenly throughout the first half, with the Hawks getting on the board first just 28 seconds into the contest. Houghton responded four minutes later to even the score on a goal by Nicole Jennings off an assist from Casidhe Heschke. Shots were even at five apiece in the first half.

The score remained tied until the 58th minute when Hartwick regained the lead. However, a late push by the Highlanders resulted in a Marissa Hollinger goal at the 68:10 mark. 

The teams battled through almost 30 minutes of extra time without neither team gaining many scoring opportunities, but the Hawks found the back of the net with 1:38 to go and held on for the win.

Elizabeth Piszker made 13 saves in net as the Hawks outshot the Highlanders, 22-16. Penalty corners were 17-16 in favor of the visitors.

Houghton returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 4 with they travel to SUNY Morrisville for a 6 p.m. contest.
