HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Junior Jennifer Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora ) scored goal #100 of her Highlander career as Houghton women's lacrosse defeated Hilbert College, 14-2, at home Thursday night.

Zacchigna sat at 98 goals entering the contest and scored twice in the game's first five minutes to reach the milestone. Teammate Meghan Oswald (Penn Yan, NY, Marcus Whitman) scored in between Zacchigna's goals. Houghton would score 10 more times in the first half, including another from both Oswald and Zacchigna, to take a 13-0 lead at the break. Alyssa Strom (Tonawanda, NY, Sweet Home) and Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) also scored two goals in the half, while Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY, Saugerties), Brielle Kwarta (Pittsford, NY, Pittsford Sutherland) and Chandler Jones (Collegeville, PA, Spring-Ford) scored one apiece.

The Highlanders slowed the offensive attack in the second half, preferring to move the ball around rather than force scoring opportunities. Zacchigna scored her fourth of the game with 17:21 remaining before the Hawks scored twice in the final five minutes.

In addition to her goal, Jones added five assists. Sperl had a career-high three assists. Piszker led the team with four groundballs, while Zacchigna and Strom had team honors with three draw controls apiece.

Kourtnie Franklin (Belfast, NY, Belfast) did not need to make a stop in 30 minutes of action. Alison Clark (Corning, NY, Corning) came on in the second half and made two saves while allowing two goals.

Shots were in favor of the Highlanders, 32-5. Houghton also had a 20-12 advantage in groundballs.

Houghton (3-7) is back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they travel to take on E8 opponent Ithaca.
