HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth scored six-straight goals over a 2:21 span to turn a one-goal deficit into a five-goal lead and went on to a 13-7 win over Houghton in women's lacrosse action Wednesday at Burke Field.
The Highlanders jumped on the Golden Flyers early, scoring twice in the game's first two minutes.
Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY, Saugerties) and
Jennifer Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora ) got the tallies. The visitors responded with three-straight to go up by one, before goals from
Meghan Oswald (Penn Yan, NY, Marcus Whitman) and
Chandler Jones (Collegeville, PA, Spring-Ford) pushed Houghton back in front 4-3.
From the 9:53 mark to the 7;32 mark of the first half, Nazareth scored six times to gain control. They added another goal with just over two minutes left in the half and scored the first two goals of the second half to go up 12-4.
Houghton got back to back goals from Zacchigna, and after another Nazareth goal, Oswald scored again to end the scoring with 1.9 seconds left.
Nazareth outshot the Highlanders, 31-13 and won 16 of 21 draw controls. Groundballs were relatively even, with Houghton holding a 16-15 edge.
Kourtnie Franklin (Belfast, NY, Belfast) made 10 saves in net.Â
Houghton (4-11; 1-6 E8) closes their season at Hartwick on Saturday.
