ITHACA, NY—The Ithaca Bombers scored six runs over the first two innings and nine over the first four, defeating the Houghton Highlanders, 9-2 on Sunday afternoon at Freeman Field.
The Bombers racked up ten hits over the first four innings and took advantage of several Houghton defensive miscues to build the sizeable lead.
On the mound Brandon Diorio held the Highlander bats at bay, allowing only two hits, two walks and one run over 6.2 innings of work while striking out three.
Houghton scored their first run of the game in the third inning when
Tage Johnson (Jamestown, NY, Frewsburg) lined a single up the middle, scoring
Chris Welch (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs).
The Highlanders scored their only other run in the ninth when
Jens Omdal (Olympia, WA, River Ridge) led off with a double to left-center, Welch singled through the left side, and a
Patrick Parsons (Wellsboro, PA, Wellsboro) groundout scored Omdal from third.
Ned Monthie (Albany, NY, Christian Brothers Academy) came on in relief for the Highlanders in the fifth and cooled the Ithaca bats. Monthie did not allow a run over four innings of work, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out three.
Houghton returns to action this Wednesday when they travel to St. John Fisher College for a doubleheader with the Cardinals starting 2:00 p.m.
