HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's lacrosse dropped an 18-2 decision to NCAA Division III No. 20 St. John Fisher on Friday at Burke Field.
The Cardinals (14-2 overall; 6-1 E8) scored 14 first half goals while holding the Highlanders scoreless over the first 30 minutes. Houghton managed to put two shots past the Cardinals' keeper in the second half, with
Jennifer Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora ) and
Meghan Oswald (Penn Yan, NY, Marcus Whitman) getting credit for the goals. The Cardinals controlled play over the final 30 minutes, but didn't press to score on the offensive end.
After outshooting the Highlanders 24-2 in the first half, the Cardinals took just 10 after the break while allowed six from Houghton. Fisher finished with an 18-9 advantage in groundballs and 18-4 edge in draw controls.
Kourtnie Franklin (Belfast, NY, Belfast) made 10 saves.
Houghton (4-10; 1-5 E8) takes on Nazareth in their final home contest of the season on Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m.
