HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton men's lacrosse couldn't overcome the Hartwick Hawks, losing 17-7 at Burke Field on Friday night.
Joshua Bailey (Millerton, PA, Williamson) opened the scoring for the Highlanders to give Houghton the early lead, just 42 seconds into the contest. The Hawks, however, responded with five-straight to end the first quarter with a 5-1 lead, then scored the first three goals of the second quarter.
Cole Chapman (Kemptville, ON, Canada, North Grenville District) scored twice to bookend two more Hawk goals, as the Highlanders went into the half trailing 10-3.
Though they managed four more goals in the second, the Highlanders couldn't stop the Hawk attack, surrendering seven goals over the final 30 minutes.

Ryan Palmer (Albion, NY, Pembroke) also scored for Houghton.
Christopher Bucciarelli (Horseheads, NY, Horseheads) made 14 stops in net as the Hawks outshot the Highlanders 50-19. Houghton turned the ball over 30 times and could convert on just 8 of 17 clears. Groundballs were 43-28 in favor of the Hawks, who also won 16 of 28 faceoffs.
Houghton (3-11; 0-7 E8) returns to action when they host Alfred University on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m.
