Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Utica, 22-5

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton keeper Chris Bucciarelli made 21 saves in 30 minutes of play and Austin Andryshak scored three times, but the Highlanders lost to Utica, 22-5, in men's lacrosse action at Burke Field.

The Pioneers, who shot early and often, led 6-1 after the first quarter, with Houghton's lone goal coming from Cole Chapman. After the Pioneers scored just 14 seconds into the second quarter, Andryshak scored his first to make it 7-2.

Utica scored six more times before the half was over to take a 13-2 lead at the break. Shots at the half were 47-7 in favor of the Pioneers.

The visitors scored five more times to open the third before Andryshak netted his second. Paul Chapman responded to a Pioneer goal with his first of the game. And after two more Pioneer scores, Andryshak finished his hattrick with 13:04 left. Utica scored with 8:17 to close the scoring.

All of Bucciarelli's stops came in the first half. Andrew Bub played the second half and made six stops.

Shots finished 78-23 in favor of the Pioneers. The visitors also had a 54-30 edge in ground balls.

Paul Chapman led the Highlanders with four groundballs.

The conference road doesn't get any easier for the Highlanders, as they travel to take on St. John Fisher on Tuesday, April 5.
