OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Tough defense by Oswego State stifled the scoring opportunities for Houghton women's lacrosse, as the Highlanders lost 18-2 on the road Saturday.
The host Lakers jumped out to a 10-0 halftime lead and scored the first six goals of the second half before the Highlanders were able to get on the board. Houghton's
Jennifer Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora ) scored off an assist from
Chandler Jones (Collegeville, PA, Spring-Ford) with 6:55 left in the contest.
Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) scored the second Houghton goal off an assist from Jones.
The Lakers outshot the Highlanders 40-7 on the day, with
Kourtnie Franklin (Belfast, NY, Belfast) making 11 stops in 51:33 of action and
Alison Clark (Corning, NY, Corning) stopping three shots in 8:27.
Zacchigna and
Meghan Oswald (Penn Yan, NY, Marcus Whitman) held team honors with five ground balls apiece.
Oswego had a huge advantage in draw controls, 19-3.
The Highlanders (2-3) are back in action at Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday, March 22.
