CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – A huge second quarter propelled the Houghton Highlanders past the Clarks Summit Defenders on Friday night, 64-40.
 
After a fairly even first quarter Houghton outscored the host Defenders, 22-6, thanks to 14 first-half points from leading scorer, Elle Reed. 
 
With two games in less than 24 hours, Houghton used the bench early and often.  Eleven Highlanders saw at least 10 minutes of action, and only one played more than 20 minutes.  Ten Houghton players made into the scoring column.

>> Houghton opened up the game with 7-0 and 9-0 runs in the second quarter, outscoring the Defenders by 16 points, thanks in part to a pair of threes and jumper by Reed.
 
>> The Highlanders continued to roll in the third quarter, taking the period by a score of 18-7.  Early on Leslie Moose scored five consecutive points.  Madison Detwiler finished the quarter with a layup to put the Highlanders up by 30.

Houghton is back in action on Saturday, when they host the SUNY Canton Roos in the Nielsen Center at 2:00 p.m.  Last year Hannah Manwaring scored 16 points and Elle Reed 13 points, as the Highlanders defeated the Roos in Canton, 65-55.
