Manwaring & Reed Push Highlanders to Third Straight Win

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Elle Reed scored 21 points and Hannah Manwaring posted her second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, as the Houghton Highlanders picked up their third straight victory over the SUNY Canton Roos, 59-43.
 
Houghton came out of the jump ball with guns blazing, outscoring the Roos in the first quarter, 22-6, and never looked back. 
 
While Canton gave the Highlanders a run down the stretch, Houghton hung on and pulled away in the final quarter.

>> Elle Reed hit a three-pointer just under a minute into the game to give Houghton their first lead of the game, and the Highlanders never trailed again.
 
Reed scored 10 of her 21 points in the first quarter, and the Highlanders posted two 9-0 runs.
 
>> Canton cut into the Houghton lead in the second, trimming the margin to as little as six before Reed hit a three and Manwaring sank a layup.  The Highlanders would head into the break leading by nine, 31-22.
 
>> After the two sides broke even in the third, 12-12, SUNY Canton pulled within five points with six minutes remaining.  Houghton's defense, however, would hold the Roos scoreless for the remainder of the game, as the Highlanders scored the game's final 11 points, six of which were scored by Manwaring.

Next Time Out
Houghton travels to Villa Maria College on Wednesday, December 7 to take on the Lady Vikings at 7:30 p.m.  This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
