HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Without standout senior
Kelsie Ashley, the Houghton College field hockey team had a tough go of it against SUNY Geneseo in Tuesday night action on Burke Field.
Geneseo's offense was too much for the Highlanders as the Knights took a 4-1 win. The loss dropped the Highlanders to 7-8 on the season.
Things started off well for the Highlanders, who got an early goal from
Tanya Hatton just 3:48 into the contest. Geneseo would quickly answer with a goal of their own three minutes later.
After that, Geneseo's Cara Stafford would collect a hat trick scoring one more goal in the first half as well as two goals in the second half.
Houghton managed to get 13 penalty corners to Geneseo's seven and also had a 17-15 advantage in total shots. However, the Highlanders could not seem to get another shot past Geneseo goalkeeper Nicole Gregg, who would tally eight saves on the night.
Elizabeth Piszker collected 4 saves.
The Highlanders are back in action on Saturdaym October 22 against St. John Fisher College at 4 p.m. in Rochester.
