Highlanders Rout Roos

Toth Named to All-Tournament Team

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Highlander men wasted little time avenging yesterday's 3-2 loss to William Paterson University, posting an impressive 4-1 victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos at SUNY Oswego this afternoon.

Jordan Mullen started the scoring in the fourth minute when he received a pass from Nic Loew and placed a perfect shot into the lower left corner of the net.

Houghton continued to pepper the opposing goal with shots throughout the first half, finally upping their lead when Ben Lawrence found Ben Munkittrick, who beat the keeper to put the Highlanders up by two.

At the end of the first half, Houghton held a 20-1 advantage in shots taken.

Early in the second half, though, a bit of luck gave the Roos renewed hope.

Just over one minute into the period Canton's Jordan Barriere played a ball into the box.  On the clearance attempt, a Houghton defender missed the header, skimming the ball past his own keeper and drawing the score to within one.

Seven minutes later, Mullen would strike again, collecting his second goal of the day on an assist from Lawrence, his second.

The Highlanders completed the scoring in the 83rd minute, when Ben Munkittrick corralled a tipped pass from Lawrence and slipped the ball past the Canton keeper.

Houghton finished the day with a 33-4 advantage in shots.

At the conclusion of the match Houghton's Jesse Toth garnered All-Tournament Honors for his outstanding play.

Next week the Highlanders head to Pennsylvania, where they will take on nationally-ranked opponents Franklin & Marshall College on Friday and Messiah College on Saturday.
