UTICA, N.Y. – Houghton struggled to find any offense against Utica, falling 4-0 in Empire 8 field hockey action on Saturday.
Utica (3-6; 2-1 E8), who outshot the Highlanders 25-4, scored three first half goals and added their final tally with under three minutes to go in the contest.
The Highlanders entered the game at a handicap without starting goalkeeper
Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara), who was unable to play. Without a backup at the position, defender
Elizabeth Modesto (San Diego, CA, Point Loma HS) stepped into the cage and was up to the challenge, given the number of shots she faced. Modesto stopped 16 shots on the afternoon.
Houghton (3-4; 1-2 E8) returns to action when they host SUNY Brockport on Tuesday.
