HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Playing in front of the home fans for the first time this season helped Houghton volleyball secure its fourth-straight win, a 3-1 victory over Pitt-Bradford on Thursday night.
The Highlanders took the match with scores of 25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13.
Houghton got solid play from across the lineup, as the five primary hitters each had five or more kills on the night.
Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) led the way with 15 kills, while also contributing 14 digs.
Meagan Palm (Lakeland, FL, Lakeland Christian) and
Naomi Prentice (Linwood, NY, York Central) each finished with 10 kills, with Prentice also playing strong at the net defensively with six blocks.
Erica Barney (Vestal, NY, Vestal) had six kills and nine digs, while
Alicia Needham (Tustin, CA, Tustin H.S.) finished with eight kills and three blocks.
Jessica Hayner (Waterford, NY, Shenendehowa) led defensively from her libero position with 17 digs.
Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) guided the attack with 42 assists.
The win tonight was a total team effort," said Head Coach Nancy Cole. "We brought lots of energy and played our game pretty consistently tonight."
Houghton (6-5) is in action on Saturday with a tri-match against Geneva College and Franciscan College in Steubenville, Ohio.
