HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Stevens Tech Ducks proved why they are one of the top teams in the Empire 8 Conference as they grabbed a 16-7 win over Houghton in women's lacrosse action Friday evening.
The Ducks (10-3, 5-1 E8) scored the first three goals of the contest, but Houghton got back to back scores over a 40 second span to pull within one. Jennifer Zacchigna and Elizabeth Westwood were credited with the Highlander goals. However, the Ducks would outscore the Highlanders 8-1 over the final 20 minutes of the half to take an 11-3 lead into the locker room. Alyssa Strom tallied the other Highlanders goal in the first half.
Any momentum the Ducks had entering the break was gone when the second half started, as the Highlanders scored four-straight goals to make the game interesting. Meghan Oswald started and ended the run, with goals from Zacchigna and Chandler Jones in the middle. The Ducks re-gained their composure outscoring the hosts 5-0 over the final 20 minutes.
Zacchigna and Oswald each finished with two goals and assist. Oswald also added three caused turnovers, five ground balls, and five draw controls. Jones tallied a goal and two assists.
Kourtnie Franklins made 12 stops in net.
Houghton (5-7, 2-3 E8) returns to action on Saturday when they host Ithaca College.
