Highlanders Fight to the Finish, Fall to Allegheny

 
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – After falling behind by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter, Houghton's women fought to the very end, closing the lead to as few as 12 points in the final seconds before finally losing to Allegheny College, 75-62.

The Analysis:
      >Allegheny gained the lead at the 3:23 mark and never relinquished it.  While the
      Highlanders kept things close through the first quarter, by halftime the Gators had built a 15
      point lead.  They later extended that lead to as many as 25 in the fourth quarter.
      >Houghton went on an 18-5 run to close the game, trimming the Gator lead to as few as 12 in
      the final seconds, but time ran out on the Highlanders.
      >12 different Gators made their way into the scoring column, including 40 points off the
      bench.
      >Allegheny held a slim advantage in turnovers, 23-25, but scored 23 points off giveaways,
      compared to Houghton's 17.
      >The Gator's were 26-65 from the floor (40.0%), while the Highlanders shot 22-68 (32.4%)
 
Clutch Performances:
The Highlanders:
      >Elle Reed (Sherman, NY, Sherman Central School) led all scorers with 19 points, including 5-6 from the line.  She also added five
      rebounds and three steals
      >Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) scored 15 points and brought down 11 rebounds, including seven on the
      offensive end.
The Gators:
      >Kaitlyn Fromknecht scored 14 points on 6-7 from the floor and added 14 rebounds, three
      steals and six blocks.
      >Delany Arbore and Candaisy Crawford scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
 
The Point After:
      >In an odd twist of events, Allegheny failed to report their starting lineup by the mandated
      10-minutes before game-time and was assessed a technical foul.  Reed sank
      both free throws and the Highlanders opened the game with a 2-0 lead before the tip-off to
      the game! 
 
Next Time Out:
Houghton travels to Alfred State next Thursday, December 10 to take on the Pioneers at 5:30 p.m.
in the opening of a men's/women's doubleheader.
