CANTON, N.Y. – Hannah Manwaring (Barton, NY, Tioga Central HS) scored a season-high 16 points, draining five threes and pulling down nine rebounds, to help lead the Houghton Highlanders past the SUNY Canton Roos on Saturday afternoon, 65-55.

Game Flow: >Houghton opened up a five point lead early, but Canton hung around throughout the first half, tying the game at 17 apiece with 5:42 to play in the second quarter. The Highlanders would finish the half on an 8-2 run, taking a six point lead into the break.
>Canton continued to keep things close until
Leslie Moose (Swain, NY, Canaseraga HS) hit a layup late in the third quarter to give the Highlanders an eight point advantage.
>In the final frame Houghton opened things up, building their lead to as many as 17 before the Roos clawed back to within 10 to close the game.
The Analysis: >Both teams struggled offensively in the first half. Houghton shot only 30.8 percent from the floor, including 1-11 from beyond the arch, and did not attempt a single foul shot.
Canton shot only 25 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from the line. The Roos did not make a shot a three-point shot, going 0-4 from beyond the arch.
Both teams also turned the ball over 14 times apiece.
>In the second half the Highlanders found their shooting touch, with several players turning in stellar performances. Manwaring hit four threes and a free throw for 13 points while Moose—who did not score in the first half—and
Elle Reed (Sherman, NY, Sherman Central School) scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
Houghton shot 46.4 percent from the field, including 5-11 from three point land and 9-12 from the line.
The Roos, while much improved offensively from the first half, could not catch up to the Highlanders hot hand, shooting 36.8 percent from the field and knocking down only two of 10 three point shots.

Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) picked up her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and pulling down 13 boards. She also blocked three shots and added three steals.
>Reed and Moose finished with 13 and 10 points apiece, respectively.
The Roos: >Brianna Sayer scored 14 points and grabbed four steals.
>Karyss Terrance added 11 points and nine rebounds.
