HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Kelsie Ashley (Landisville, PA, Hempfield HS) scored three times and Houghton field hockey stretched its win streak to three games with a 4-0 win over SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday.
Neither team had many opportunities over the game's first nine minutes, but the Highlanders found space in the attacking zone, earning three penalty corners over a two minute span. Ashley converted the final corner into a goal, taking the pass from
Marissa Hollinger (Lancaster, PA, Manheim Township) and ripping a shot from the top of the arc into the back of the net.
Houghton kept up the pressure, ripping off 12 shots and another nine corners over the next 20 minutes. The Highlanders got their second goal when Hollinger found Ashley off a corner, but instead of shooting, Ashley passed back to Hollinger who redirected the ball into the goal from the left post.
Ashley scored her second of the night just before the half off an assist from
Ashley Hughes (Fairport, NY, Fairport High School).
The shots kept coming for the Highlanders in the second half, but they needed to wait 20 minutes after the break for their fourth goal. Hughes ripped a shot off the Morrisville keeper and Ashley was there to put the rebound in the net.
Houghton outshot Morrisvlle, 23-4, and had a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) made four saves to earn her second shutout of the campaign.
The Highlanders (6-4) are back in action when they travel to take on Cortland on Thursday, Oct. 8.
