ALFRED, N.Y. -- Houghton volleyball lost the final two games of the match, falling 3-2 to Alfred State on the road Wednesday.

Final game scores were 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-27, 10-15.

Alfred State grabbed the game one win, but then lost the next two to the Highlanders. Houghton had its chances in the fourth game, but couldn't pull it out in extra points and then fell in the final short fifth game.

Meagan Palm (Lakeland, FL, Lakeland Christian) recorded a team-high 12 kills. Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) finished with nine kills and 18 digs. Kayla Bernard (Aubrey, TX, Cisco CC) and Erica Barney (Vestal, NY, Vestal) tallied 23 and 21 digs, respectively. Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) contributed 28 assists.

Houghton (16-11) will battle Alfred State again Friday in the first match of the Highlander Invitational. Orbelin, Wells, SUNY Canton and Utica will also participate in the two-day event. Learn more about the tournament.
