HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Houghton field hockey team lost 3-0 to the University of Rochester in its final home contest of the season Wednesday night at Burke Field.

The Yellowjackets scored twice in the first half, getting goals from Olivia Denny and Sayaka Abe in the 14th and 28th minutes. The second tally was taken well outside the circle, but the ball touched a Highlander defender and skimmed into the net.

Rochester outshot the Highlanders 11-3 in the opening 35 minutes.

The Houghton defense stiffened in the second half, allowing just six shots, but offensively the hosts could find little space to move in Rochester's end. The visitors got their final score in the game's final minute off the stick of Callie Fisher.

Rochester finished the night with a 17-6 edge in shots. Houghton had three shots in each half.

Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) made nine stops in net.

Houghton (8-8) wraps up its regular season at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. A Highlander win combined with a Utica loss will give Houghton the fourth seed in the Empire 8 Tournament.
