ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Houghton volleyball was unable to win a game against Elmira or Stevens, losing 3-0 in both Empire 8 matches hosted by Elmira on Saturday.
The losses drop the Highlanders to 16-10 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8. Houghton ends the regular season E8 play in the three-way tie for third place in the conference standings.
Against Elmira, the Highlanders ran into a strong Soaring Eagles squad and lost 25-15, 25-21, 25-18. Houghton was led by
Meagan Palm (Lakeland, FL, Lakeland Christian) with 10 kills, while
Naomi Prentice (Linwood, NY, York Central) finished with nine.
Kayla Bernard (Aubrey, TX, Cisco CC) and Erica Barney had 16 and 11 kills, respectively, and
Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) contributed 26 assists.
The Highlanders closed the day against first place Stevens, losing 27-25, 25-18, 25-22. Palm, Prentice and
Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) each had nine kills to lead the Highlanders. Bernard had 18 digs, while Barney finished with 12. Coryell finished with 30 assists.
Houghton returns to action at Alfred State on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
