HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Houghton and Stevens went neck and neck for the first 20 minutes of action, with the host Ducks clinging to seven point lead. However, the Ducks started the second half on a 27-4 run to break the game open and cruised to a 76-60 men's basketball win on Saturday.
Jordan Scott (Burlington, ON, Canada, Notre Dame Secondary) came off the bench to lead the Highlanders with six points and six rebounds in the first half. Scott's two buckets -- both three pointers -- came in the last two minutes of the half as the Highlanders trailed 33-26.
But whatever momentum Houghton had heading into the break was gone in the early minutes of the second half. The Ducks scored the first 10 points of the half. Then, after the teams traded buckets on two consecutive possessions, the hosts scored 15 straight points to go up 60-30.
Houghton was able to cut the lead down as each coach went deep into their respective benches down the stretch.
Brandon Camacho (Dundee, NY, Dundee High School) led the Highlanders with 12 points off the bench.
Johnathan Stowe (Toronto, ON, Canada, Don Mills Collegiate Institute) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Houghton (4-6; 0-2 E8) is back in action Tuesday, Jan. 6 as they host Nazareth in another Empire 8 tilt.
