HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher Cardinals showed why they are one of the top teams in the Empire 8, using constant defensive pressure and efficient offense to take an 81-39 win over Houghton in women's basketball action on Friday.
The Cardinals forced 19 turnovers and shot 47 percent from the field in the first half to take a 42-22 halftime lead.
The second half wasn't much better for the hosts, as Houghton shot just 24 percent from the field. Both teams struggled from the charity stripe. Houghton hit 12 of 23, while the Cardinels converted just 10 of 21.
Maisie Pipher led the Highlanders with 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Hannah Manwaring snared a game-high 10 rebounds, while adding five points and four steals.
Houghton (3-13; 0-8 E8) is back action on Friday, Jan. 30 when they host Stevens Tech at 6 p.m.
