HOUGHTON, N.Y.— Regardless of the hopes of redemption from the last conference match-up against Stevens Institute of Technology, the Highlanders found themselves in a similar situation with another 26 point deficit, losing 69-43.
The two teams opened up the first half going back and forth in scoring opportunities, with the Ducks leading the 11-10 run.
It was nearly halfway through the first period when a successful Stevens' 3-point shot sparked a rally. A 12 point lead was a crucial turning point for the Ducks; continuing their trend, found themselves going into the second half up 42-23.
Momentum continued for Stevens in the second half. While
Hannah Fink (Coudersport, PA, Coudersport HS) was able to put point on the board for Houghton, she was the only Highlander to score in a 7 minute timeframe. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Stevens' not only secured their 23 point lead but increased it.
Hannah Manwaring (Barton, NY, Tioga Central HS) and
Grace Bealor (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield, HS) joined in the efforts to get the Highlanders back on track, however, it was too late. The game concluded with a 69-43 Stevens' victory.
Fink led the way with 15 points, followed by Manwaring with 8 points and Bealor with 7.
The Women's Basketball team (3-14,0-9) look forward to their game tomorrow (1/31) where they will play at home against Hartwick College at 2 p.m.
