ROCHESTER, N.Y.-- The Highlander Volleyball team competed in a close match against the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College, losing 3-2.
In the first set of the match, the Highlanders and Golden Flyers went point for point, for a majority of the game--at both the beginning and end of the set. It was in the middle of the set when the Highlanders scored 6 consecutive points to give them a cushion of a lead. The Golden Flyers then had two stunts of 4 consecutive points, forcing the "win by 2" rule. The Highlanders went the distance to come out on top, winning the first set 29-27.
Nazareth was in charge the second set, allowing for only 16 Houghton points. Going 1-1 into the third set, Nazareth and Houghton would find themselves tied with one another on numerous occasions including the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th point. Unfortunately, the Golden Flyers ended the game by the "win by 2" rule, 26-24.
The fourth set was yet another exciting match-up; this time in favor of the Highlanders. A combination of Houghton kills and Nazareth attack errors allowed for the Highlanders to win 25-23 to force a fifth set.
While the Highlanders inched up point by point in the fifth set, the Golden Flyers moved at a faster pace. Ending the 5th set 15-9, Nazareth ended the match win a 3-2 victory over Houghton.
Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) was credited with a double-double having 30 assists and 14 digs.
Meagan Palm (Lakeland, FL, Lakeland Christian) earned 15 kills, while
