ALFRED, N.Y. -- Houghton men's soccer got two goals under two minutes apart late in the first half to grab a 2-0 win at Alfred State College on Tuesday.

The Highlanders reeled off three shots in the game's first five minutes and would added eight more before one found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Ben Munkittrick (Ottawa, Ontario, Canterbury) knocked in a loose ball after a scramble in front of the net for his first career goal. Just 1:35 later, Munkittrick and Carlos Peregrina (Phoenix, AZ, Westview) each picked up assists on a goal by Jesse Toth (Victor, NY, Victor). 

Houghton had a 13-4 advantage in shots in the first half. The second half had much less offense, as the Highlanders were outshot 4-3, but Houghton's strong defensive play kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard.

Jacob Dunnett (Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Kennebecasis) made five stops in goal for his fifth shutout of the year.

Houghton (6-8-1) is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Ithaca College.
