Men's Soccer Gives E8 Leader Stevens a Test, but Drops 1-0 Decision at Home

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton men's soccer controlled the pace of play throughout the 90 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net in 1-0 loss to conference leader Stevens Tech on Saturday.

Stevens improved to 10-3-1 overall and remained perfect (5-0) in E8 play.

Houghton looked for long balls early, but three offsides in the game's first seven minutes thwarted the Highlander attack. Houghton was able to find their way into the Stevens end and produced three shots between the 12th and 15th minutes. Defensively, Houghton midfielders and backline didn't allow the Ducks much room to produce many scoring opportunities. However, the Ducks made the most of the one true chance they had, heading in a cross in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Highlanders had a 3-1 edge in shots in the first half.

Houghton continued to control the action in the second half, but despite numerous chances, the Houghton attack could not produce a goal. They outshot the Ducks, 6-2, in the second half and 9-3 for the game. Corners were even at three apiece.

Jacob Dunnett (Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Kennebecasis) faced just two shots on frame, making one save.

The Highlanders (5-8-1; 1-3-1 E8) travel to take on Alfred State on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
