recognize Professor Roger Rozendal for more than 34 years of service to Houghton College and its student-athletes.  Roger was our first and longest serving Faculty Athletics Representative. He served in that very important capacity for 20 years. Professor Rozendal was also the long-time Chair of the Faculty Athletics Committee where he provided leadership and direction for the department for many years. He was also a firm believer in being involved beyond the walls of Houghton College. He served the NAIA as the District 31 Eligibility Chair from 1980-1985; as the District 18 Eligibility Chair from 1985-1990; and he served on the National Eligibility Committee from 1984-1994.

When asked what induction into the Hall of Honor meant to him, Professor Rozendal responded, “One of the pleasures of my professional life was to work with our student-athletes relative to academic eligibility.  I found our student-athletes highly motivated both academically and on the playing field or court.  Thankfully, it was often difficult to separate the two, and that made my 20 years as Faculty Athletics Representative especially enjoyable.”

In his many years of service to Houghton College athletics, Roger has consistently displayed the distinctive characteristics of a fulfilled Christian life.  His wife, Reda, with whom he has modeled Christian parenthood for their children Jennifer and Emily, joins Roger today.  He has modeled Christian servant hood for all of us and our lives are all the richer for it.
