David Bourne

David Bourne joined Coach Lindsay Seddon for the inaugural season of Houghton men’s volleyball in August of 2023 and moved into the Head Coach position in July 2024.

Coach Bourne brings years of experience as a player, coach and official to the court.
 
After captaining Spencerport High School to the 1976 Section V Championship, Bourne was named MVP of the tournament.  He went on to play collegiately for the University of Rochester men’s club team, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and served as a three-year starter.
 
Bourne has continued to play to the present, racking up numerous team and individual accolades, including an Empire State Games, Masters 45+ Division Championship and five runner-up accolades. His teams have won the NYS Senior Games 50+ Championship 10 times and earned runner up honors the other three times they entered the tournament. His teams have also won championships in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland in the senior division.
 
In 2011 Bourne’s team won the Canadian Senior Games, following up that accomplishment with a runner-up trophy in 2012. Since 2009 his team has finished in the top four at the National Senior Games (held every other year) six times, culminating in a National Championship in 2023. They also finished third in the Huntsman World Senior Games in 2010. 
 
Bourne has over a dozen years of coaching experience, including most recently in Houghton, serving as an assistant coach at Houghton Academy and the Merge 16U girls volleyball club. He has also served as a certified boys and girls high school varsity official for the past 20 years.
 
After spending more than 20 years in the corporate technology sector, Bourne founded his own company and now boasts clients across the United States.  He and his wife, Sara Massey, Associate Professor of Music Education in the Greatbach School of Music, currently reside in Houghton.
