Andrew Bussey joined the Highlander soccer coaching staff in the fall of 2019.
A four-year member of the Houghton men's soccer team, Bussey earned a bachelors degree in Sports, Recreation and Wellness Management in May of 2019 while also minoring in Sports Ministry.
Over his career as a Highlander, Bussey started 50 games, netting 15 goals and 18 assists. In his freshman campaign he tallied 12 points and garnered 2nd Team All-Empire 8 and Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors. As a sophomore he led the team to the NCCAA National Tournament, posting team-bests in goals (8) and assists (9). At the completion of the season he was honored with a 1st Team Empire 8 and 2nd Team NCCAA Midwest Region awards.
Hampered by injuries over his final two seasons, Bussey's numbers never returned to the level of the 2016 campaign; however, he continued to lead the Highlanders and was named captain during his final two years. At the completion of his senior season he earned his third conference distinction as 2nd Team All-Empire 8.
Coach Bussey has worked as a camp counselor for the Highlanders, as well as the Chicago Eagles and Bluesky Global Ministries in Nairobi, Kenya. He also led worship on the student-led Koinonia team during his time at Houghton
A native of Leicester, England, Bussey attended high school at Rosslyn Academy in Kenya, and has utilized soccer as a ministry tool at several other locations around the world. He holds a U.S. Soccer National F Coaching License and lives in Houghton. His younger brother, Daniel, is currently a senior on the men's soccer team.Â
