Eligibility

Intramural Eligibility Policy (01-05-23)

1. A student who is a member of an intercollegiate athletic team at Houghton University shall be ineligible to play on an intramural team in that same sport during that academic year. An intercollegiate varsity athlete that quits or is removed from the intercollegiate team may not play on an intramural team in that same sport during that same academic year.
2. Only two (2) ex-intercollegiate varsity team members may participate on the same intramural team of the same intramural sport.
3. Intercollegiate athletes are those students who are members of an intercollegiate team at Houghton University.
4. Intercollegiate athletes who do not participate in an athletic season due to injury, are not eligible to participate in the same intramural sport during that same academic year.
5. Intercollegiate athletes who become academically ineligible to participate on his/her intercollegiate team, are not eligible to participate on an intramural team of that same sport during that same academic year.
6. All participants must have a valid college ID (students, faculty/staff, faculty/staff family members, or rec. cardholders) to participate in intramurals.
7. There can be no more than 2 non-Houghton University students on the floor/field at a time. 
8. Any team with more than 3 non-Houghton University students on the roster is ineligible to participate in the playoffs.

8. 1. Example a) A team with 4 community members on it may participate in the regular season, but their season would end once the playoffs begin. This applies to all community members, faculty & staff who participate in intramurals. 
   2. Example b) A team has 1 community member and 2 staff members on the roster. That team only allows 2 non-Houghton University students on the floor/field at a time. This team IS eligible to participate in playoffs. 
9. No player may participate on two teams of the SAME sport and may NOT switch teams or leagues during the season.
10. All players must be listed on the team page of the IMLeagues website. If a player is not listed on the roster, they are ineligible to participate on that team. No additions can be made after the regular season has begun. 
11. Team captains are responsible to check their team's eligibility. All games played with an ineligible player will be forfeited.
12. If anyone initiates a physical altercation, they, along with their team, will be disqualified from the remainder of the intramural season.
13. If anyone heckles or harasses the referees consistently, their team will receive one formal warning. If anyone on this team heckles or harasses the referee after they have received a formal warning, their team will be disqualified.
