HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton University women's soccer returned to the win column Tuesday, defeating Hilbert College, 4-0, at Burke Field.
The Highlanders (6-3-1) controlled play throughout the match, outshooting the Hawks 27-2 and putting 16 shots on goal. Houghton also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks and maintained 62% possession.
Anna Torppey put Houghton on the board in the 33rd minute, scoring her first goal of the season on an unassisted play to give the Highlanders a 1-0 halftime lead.
Houghton added three goals in the second half. Gracelyn Williams scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute off an assist from Samara Hallett. Junior midfielder Annaleis Milne then joined the scoring less than four minutes later, finishing a pass from Sophia Templeton to make it 3-0.
Kaylin Fox capped the scoring in the 89th minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Leah Jackson.
Olivia Short made one save to record the shutout for Houghton. The Highlanders limited Hilbert to one shot on goal and two shots overall.
The victory moves Houghton back into the win column following a loss and a tie in its previous two matches.
Houghton returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, hosting Utica University at 3:30 p.m. in an Empire 8 Conference Homecoming matchup.
