Men's Soccer Erupts for 10 Goals in Win over Carlow

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton University men's soccer erupted for 10 goals Tuesday night, cruising to a 10-0 victory over Carlow University at Burke Field.

The Highlanders (4-2-4) scored twice in the opening half before adding eight goals after halftime. Houghton finished with a 28-0 advantage in shots and a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.

Pedro Rebello opened the scoring in the 15th minute, heading home an assist from David Jatta. Samuel Edwards doubled the lead 15 seconds later when he finished a pass from John Fay.

Houghton continued to pour on the offense in the second half. Jatta scored in the 52nd minute before Edwards added his second goal of the night two minutes later. Nata Souza followed with an unassisted goal in the 57th minute to make it 5-0.

Abram Reynolds, Adrian Rodriguez, Isaiah Sisson, Josh Davidson and Michael Pustay each added a goal in the final 30 minutes. Reynolds and Pustay also recorded assists, while Rodriguez converted a penalty kick.

Nine different Highlanders found the net in the victory. Edwards and Jatta led Houghton with two goals and two assists, respectively, while eight other players contributed at least one goal or assist.

The 10-goal performance marks the first time Houghton has reached double figures since a 12-0 victory over Fisher in 2011. The 10 goals also tie for the 10th-highest single-game total in program history. It's the most goals scored for Houghton in the DIII era.

Stephen McLamb earned the victory in goal, playing the first 45 minutes before Marco Zanini took over for the second half. Neither goalkeeper faced a shot on goal as Houghton recorded its second shutout of the season.

Houghton returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, traveling to Utica University for an Empire 8 Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
