FREDONIA, N.Y. — Houghton men's soccer rallied for a 1-1 draw at Fredonia Wednesday night, extending its unbeaten streak to three matches with its fourth tie of the season.
Fredonia took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Harrison McAneny scored off an assist from Ryan Ameis. Houghton goalkeeper Joshua Smith kept the Highlanders within a goal, while Houghton put three shots on target during the opening half.
Houghton found the equalizer with just 1:26 remaining. Daniel Da Costa scored in the 89th minute off an assist from Nata Souza, leveling the match at 1-1. Houghton held Fredonia without a shot on goal in the second half.
Houghton finished with seven shots, including five on target, while Fredonia had 11 shots and one shot on goal. Thomas McDonald made four saves for Fredonia.
Da Costa scored Houghton's lone goal, while Souza recorded an assist. Smith played all 90 minutes in goal.
The Highlanders have now played to draws in each of their last three matches and four times this season.
Next Up: Houghton returns home Saturday to host Elmira in an Empire 8 matchup at 1 p.m.
