ALFRED, NY – The Highlanders opened the season with a dominant first set at Alfred State, but the Pioneers were able to respond quickly taking the next three sets handedly.
The opening set of the night contained a clean, consistent offensive attack from the Highlanders, but each of the following sets were defined by their errors.
An inability to win the battle at the net, on offense or defense, limited Houghton's options and helped Alfred State secure a tight grip on the match's momentum.
Heading into the fourth set, the Highlanders refused to give up. Despite a much cleaner set than the previous two, however, the Pioneers had pulled too far out ahead and were able to secure the victory.
