Highlanders Pound out 20 Hits in Win Over Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, PA – The Houghton Highlanders pounded out 20 hits, including nine for extra bases, in a 17-7 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Panthers on Wednesday afternoon.
 
After stranding runners at second in third in the top of the first, the Highlanders spotted the Panthers a three-run lead in the bottom half of the inning following three walks and a pair of singles.
 
Houghton would answer with four runs in the top of the fourth, capped by a bases-clearing double by Qingyang Feng.
 
After Pitt-Bradford evened the score in the third, James Nelson put the Highlanders back on top for good in the top of the fourth with his third homerun of the season.
 
The Highlanders would take open the game up with five runs in the fifth, again capped by a two-RBI single by Christian Tortorici and an RBI double by Nelson.
 
Houghton would tack on a single run in the eighth and six more runs in the ninth.

>> Tobias Waldridge went 5-for-6, tying the single-game hits record last accomplished in 2025 by both Kanta Ueno and Nate Hall.  His five hits are the most by any freshman in modern-era history.
 
>> Olsin Waldorf went 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBI.  Waldorf is the first Houghton freshman to homer twice in one game.
 
>> Feng and Tortorici finished with three hits apiece, while Nelson, Vincent Lucyszyn and Derek Ebersole each collected two hits apiece. 
 
>> He Zhang picked up his first win of the season, tossing 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one run, while striking out two.  Isaiah Wood one scoreless inning without allowing a baserunner.
