ALBANY, N.Y. -- Houghton dropped both ends of a road doubleheader at Sage on Friday afternoon, falling 9-0 in Game 1 and 7-0 in Game 2.
Game 1: Sage 9, Houghton 0
Houghton struggled to generate offense in the opener, as Sage held the Highlanders hitless over five innings.
The Highlanders' best opportunity came in the third inning when Rebecca Oates worked a walk, but Sage's pitching limited any further threat. Houghton finished with just one baserunner in the game and struck out six times as a team.
Oates took the loss in the circle, tossing four innings while allowing seven hits and nine runs—though only three were earned. Defensive miscues proved costly, with Houghton committing three errors that contributed to big innings for Sage, including a four-run first and a three-run fourth.
Game 2: Sage 7, Houghton 0
Houghton showed more life offensively in Game 2 but was unable to break through in a 7-0 setback.
The Highlanders recorded two hits, coming from Kareena Ulfig and Hannah Fish, while Ella Christ added the team's lone walk.
Ulfig also went the distance in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing 11 hits and seven runs (four earned) while working around traffic for much of the game.
Sage built its lead early with a run in the first and three more in the second, capitalizing on defensive errors. Houghton's defense was again a factor, as two errors led to multiple unearned runs. Despite settling in defensively and in the circle over the middle innings, the Highlanders were unable to mount a comeback.
